WATER: The Liquid of Life

Posted on July 1, 2019 by nwahealth in Health and Wellness

WATER: The Liquid of Life
Water is an important part of health and life. It’s crucial to survival. In the summertime, even as many of us spend a great deal of time in the water, we also forget to drink enough of it. Why is it so important? Why, really, should we focus on getting enough of it at this time of year? And what do water and your spine have to do with each other?
Water and Your Body
The body is made up of 60 to 65 percent water. Many of the body’s functions depend on proper hydration to function — and certainly to function optimally. Every cell in the body requires water. Water also does many other things, including:
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Transports nutrients to the body
  • Removes harmful toxins
  • Serves as a natural lubricant to the body and joints

Your Spine
The health and functioning of your spine require proper hydration as well. The discs don’t have a direct nutritional supply, they lose it just before the teen years. So the discs receive nutrition, including water, through a process called imbibition. Imbibition results only when there is proper motion between the joints above and below the specific disc. The proper motion creates a pump-like effect and the nutrients are moved in and out of the disc. Adequate hydration is required for it is essential for nutrient delivery.

How Much Water Should You Drink?
It is recommended that you drink 64 oz of water a day. That’s eight 8 oz glasses. Another recommendation for those who are active is to drink at least half to all of your body weight in ounces of water. So if a person weighed 160 pounds they would drink 80-160 oz of water a day. Every person is different, but be sure to at least get your 64 ounces a day.
Chiropractic Care

Misalignment impairs the imbibition process and the nutrient supply to the disc. The lack of water in the spinal disc can lead to disc degeneration. Disc degeneration leads to spinal decay and instability. This decline in spinal health may decrease the functioning of the nervous system — which affects every system, organ, structure, and cell in your body. Chiropractic adjustments correct misalignment, thereby improving the imbibition process.
As summer enters the home stretch, remember that heat pulls water from your body. Make sure you are getting adequate water, and make sure to see your chiropractor so you’ll be able to absorb it to the greatest degree for your overall health!

Children’s Awareness Month

Posted on May 31, 2019 by nwahealth in Awareness, Health and Wellness

Children’s Awareness Month

June is National Children’s Awareness Month. We at NWA Health Solutions love the work that we do with children every day. Dr. Sarah sees pediatric patients for a variety of reasons, ranging from colic to ear infections. Today’s children seem to have more health concerns than generations past. The increasing rates of food allergies, stress, depression, and childhood obesity are alarming. While the ongoing debate of why these conditions are overwhelming today’s children remains, we can offer some simple tips to improve your child’s overall well-being.

Chiropractic Care

First and foremost, chiropractic care is critical from infancy to early adolescence. Regular adjustments help your body heal itself and balance the nervous system. A balanced nervous system equals better physical coordination and improved mental clarity.

Well-Balanced Diet

The second most important thing you can do for your child is to keep him or her on a well-balanced diet. Raw, organic fruits and vegetables should be the core part of your child’s diet. Emphasize whole, unprocessed foods and try to completely eliminate foods that do not benefit your child nutritionally, such as soft drinks, fast food, pre-packaged foods, and anything containing trans-fat and artificial sugars. Also, try to incorporate as much water as possible. Everyone should consume half their weight in water ounces, daily.

Exercise

Lastly, take your child outside every day for some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise. Today’s kids are overloaded with smartphones, video games, computers, and T.V. This technology has been partly to blame for rising levels of ADD/ADHD, sleep disorders, and childhood obesity. Not only does playing outdoors help integrate exercise into your child’s daily life, but it also gives your child a boost of Vitamin D, which is necessary to maintain strong bones, support healthy nerve function, and strengthen the immune system. Most importantly, it allows you to bond with your child while spending uninterrupted quality time together.

Product of the Month

Birth Song Botanicals offers nourishing tinctures, healing salves, and herbal teas and baths. There are several children specific tinctures including immune boosters, tranquility for restlessness during teething or sickness, and also a stomach-soothing remedy. Our patients have seen great results using these products and we are proud to carry them in our office. For the month of June, we are offering 10% OFF any Birth Song Botanicals Supplement for Children.

When you purchase PurePals, Chew C Berry and Children’s Daily Immune, you will receive 10% OFF.
PurePals offers support for healthy cognitive function, mood, and immune health among children.
Chew C Berry is specifically formulated to supply benefits of vitamin C supplementation. Vitamin C is necessary for growth development and repair of all body tissues. It also is often used to improve the immune system.
Children’s Daily Immune strengthens your Child’s immunity and respiratory systems to help keep them healthy all year long.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Posted on May 6, 2019 by nwahealth in Awareness, Health and Wellness

Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. Our Mental health helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
If you struggle with anxiety or depression, Chiropractic Care, Acupuncture and Massage can be of great benefit to you. Our treatments and therapies alone will not cure a mental disorder, but most find that when paired with your Primary Care provider or Psychologist/Psychiatrist it can provide you with calmness, and clear peace of mind.

Acupuncture

and

Massage

Acupuncture and Massage therapy has been shown to provide effective forms of stress relief. This can help improve emotional and mental well-being and ease symptoms associated with specific mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression

Many traditional doctors are partnering with doctors in other fields in order to make a multidisciplinary approach to mental health treatment. It is hoped that by using natural healing and talk therapy that the use of powerful prescriptions could decline, giving people a better overall quality of life without the burden of mental health symptoms. If you or someone you know is affected by Mental Health and are looking for a more natural alternative treatment plan, Functional Medicine could be for you.

Save The Date

Don’t forget to save the date for our Patient Appreciation Party, May 17th. There will be snacks, games, giveaways, and if you have a scheduled appointment, an NWA Health Solutions SWAG bag! You don’t want to miss out. Call today to schedule your appointment with Dr. Josh or Dr. Sarah. If you leave us a Google review you could go home with awesome Yeti Cooler

Infertility Awareness

Posted on April 22, 2019 by nwahealth in Uncategorized

This week is National Infertility Awareness Week. Anyone can be challenged to have a family. No matter what race, religion, sexuality, or economic status you are, infertility doesn’t discriminate.

This week unites millions of people who want to remove the stigmas and barriers that stand in the way of building families.

A Functional Medicine Approach To Infertility

Functional Medicine works to restore balance to your body with the aim of achieving optimal health for the rest of your life.

By addressing the whole person and the underlying causes of disease or dysfunction, functional medicine provides strategies and a road map to optimum health.

When having trouble conceiving, it can be really difficult to decide what the best steps towards finding help can be. In Functional Medicine, we look to get the individual’s underlying root cause of imbalance within their body.

For many people, infertility can be improved with lifestyle, for example reducing stress, improving your diet, reducing over-exercising, and improving sleep.

Can Chiropractic Help?

Improper nervous system function, poor nutrition, and high stress could be one of the many different reasons why one may be infertile.

There are many different fertility treatments that you can try. Some are successful and some are not.

Many seek chiropractic care for wellness purposes and don’t realize the effect it may have on the body. While chiropractic doesn’t cure infertility, it does reduce stress and interference in the body.

If you are struggling with infertility and want to explore your options with chiropractic, please give us a call. For the rest of the month, we are offering a FREE exam with Dr. Sarah when you mention this post.

Spring Is In The Air

Posted on February 28, 2019 by nwahealth in Health and Wellness

Spring Into Good Health With Chiropractic Care

Spring can always feel like a fresh start with flowers blooming, and the days becoming longer. You can finally get outside and enjoy the brighter days and warmer weather. Spring can be a time of new beginnings and the start of new healthy habits. You can begin exercising, begin a new hobby, or start taking care of your self by practicing self-care. Chiropractic care is a great way to take of yourself and help you feel like a spring chicken.

When it’s cold and dreary outside you, tend to stay indoors, and not be as active. Being less active can cause your joint to become stiff, and your mobility and flexibility can decrease.  Chiropractic care benefits you by reducing your pain, enhancing mobility, increasing your flexibility, and activity levels.  By reducing your pain you, are enhancing your overall health.  The more energy you have, and the more your body functions efficiently, the better you will feel about yourself.

With the change in season comes the dreaded seasonal allergies. More than half of the world’s population suffer from seasonal allergies.  If you find yourself suffering from allergies, consider chiropractic care as a treatment option. Chiropractic can help regulate and coordinate the body’s reaction to allergens by improving the communication between the brain and spinal cord. Misalignments can interrupt this communication and immunity may be compromised. Put some spring in your step and come see us for an adjustment.

Why Choose Chiropractic Care?

Posted on February 12, 2018 by nwahealth in Clinic General News, Health and Wellness

WHY CHOOSE CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

For us here at NWA Health Solutions, we are finding it is so rare that people know everything Chiropractors can do and treat. EDUCATION is key and teaching others about what we do is something we are going to strive to do. Here at NWA Health Solutions we don’t just crack backs. Our Doctors here do so much more than adjustments and we are here to educate you on all our services. Over the next several weeks we are going to discuss different health issues and concerns and how a person experiencing these can benefit from Chiropractic Care.

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for a Thyroid disorder

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Nutritional/Weight Loss

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Diabetes

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for ADHD

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Crohn’s Disease/IBS

First of all, what is a Chiropractor? It is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Doctors of Chiropractic practice hands-on, drug-free approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Every Chiropractor is different and can do different treatments depending on their level of training and education.

Why Patients Come to NWA Health Solutions

The goal of chiropractic is to treat the origin of a condition, not the symptoms of a condition.  Chiropractors get to the root of the problem; why does this condition exist?  This approach is very different than that of a medical doctor.  Today’s medicine treats symptoms that are associated with certain conditions, whereas chiropractors figure out where those symptoms originate from and treat the underlying condition.  There are many conditions that chiropractic can treat without drugs or surgery.  There are also many conditions that are not directly treated by chiropractic but are indirectly affected.

We can help anyone that walk through our doors!

We have Solutions for your questions!

 NWA Health Solution Programs:

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY PROGRAM

Our Spinal Decompression Therapy Program is a proven method of treatment for herniated disc, bulging disc, sciatic pain, and more. This program is designed specifically to heal the low back, not just mask the pain. Taking pain medication or undergoing risky spinal surgery is not the only option for low back pain. We treat the underlying conditions present in the low back, not just the symptoms.

Decompression Therapy works with the vertebrae, inter-vertebral discs and spinal nerves traveling up and down the spine. It is designed to traction the spine, decompressing the vertebrae, allowing the discs to pull in more oxygen and nutrients. By applying traction to the vertebrae in the low back, they allow the discs to act like a vacuum and draw the bulge/herniation back into the disc. This is the number one way to treat a disc bulge without surgery.

THYROID PROGRAM

Dr. Rowden has developed a Thyroid Program to help patients who have been battling thyroid symptoms. This program is designed to help manage those symptoms naturally. With proper lab testing, including all of the necessary tests, Dr. Rowden can determine what the proper steps would be to improve your overall health. The program will consist of testing, essential supplementation, as well as any therapies, nutritional counseling, and dietary changes recommended for a full recovery. This is a very successful program truly designed to fit your personal needs.

WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM

Our goal with this program is to help guide you in the right direction with diet, exercise, and lifestyle. We address your daily food intake, daily activity, and current environment. The goal is to help you realize bad habits that you have created in your life. Once identified and removed, weight loss is almost always a much appreciated side effect! It includes 3 office visits, pH testing, supplements, specific nutritional guidelines, and exercise details tailored to each individual.

EXTREMITY REHABILITATION PROGRAM

This program is specialized in extremity health. If you have a shoulder or knee, for example, that tend to be a hindrance in your life, then this program is for you! It includes an adjustment, cold laser therapy, ultrasound, interferential, vibration therapy, arthrostim, spinal mechanical traction, and therapeutic exercise.

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS

Our Monthly Maintenance Program is for the patient who wants a spinal check-up once a week. This program is a special rate for one office visit per week, for four weeks!

HORMONE IMBALANCE PROGRAM

This has always been a passion of Dr. Sarah Morter Rowden’s. After completing many hours of research and seminars, Dr. Sarah’s knowledge in this area is very extensive. This topic hits close to home for Dr. Sarah, as she has many people near and dear to her heart experiencing severe complications of hormone imbalance. Hormone imbalance affects men and women. For women, an imbalance can be contributing to infertility or complicating phases of menopause. Please consider this all-natural approach to healing your body from the inside out. Symptoms you may be experiencing:

Fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, hot flashes, night sweats, foggy memory, infertility, excessive bleeding, headaches, excessive cramping, painful cycles, irritability, anxiety, acne, decreased sex drive, mood swings, uterine fibroids, sweet cravings, cystic ovaries, low thyroid, depression, excessive emotions, hair loss

 WELLNESS PROGRAM

This program is for anyone looking to really work through some emotional/stressful situations in their life. Sometimes we know we need a better balance, but don’t know how to go about it. That is exactly what the Wellness Program is for! It includes an intense BEST adjustment, spinal adjustment, Oxygen Therapy with Mechanical Traction.

Lab Analysis – Simple, yet effective lab testing is a great way to learn more about how your body is functioning. If you feel like something is just “not right”, then you might want to consider running a few lab panels and determining what is going on inside your body. Our lab analysis includes hormone panels, food intolerance panels, adrenal stress index (chronic stress), thyroid panels and more.

Neurological Therapies – A variety of therapies focused on balancing both lobes of your brain. These therapies are designed to strengthen the weak side of your brain, as well as your body, and even your eyes!

Physical Therapies – Activities created to strengthen your postural muscles, as well as major muscle groups. We use therapeutic resistance bands, exercise balls, wobble boards, and more to regain the strength in each muscle group.

Adjustments – Spinal Alignment is an integral part of overall health! By allowing Dr. Rowden to remove any misalignments, you are improving your health, and preventing deterioration at the same time!

Nutritional Consult – Dr. Rowden now provides Nutritional Consulting for her patients. If you are unsure of what changes to make in your diet, or just need a little guidance in supplements, please contact Dr. Rowden. What you put in your body, determines what your body puts out!
