Thyroid Awareness Month

Posted on January 25, 2019 by nwahealth in Awareness, Health and Wellness

Thyroid Cancer is the Fastest Growing Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer has tripled over the last three decades, making it the fastest-growing cancer. The Thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland that is normally located in the lower front of the neck. It produces hormones that enter the bloodstream and affect the metabolism, heart, brain, muscles, and liver and keep the body functioning properly and effectively.

The estimates for cases of Thyroid cancer have increased since 2017, and rates are higher for women than men. Women account for nearly three-quarters of thyroid cases. The exact cause is unknown. Some research has indicated that better imaging technology has caused the increase.  “Much of this rise appears to be the result of the increased use of thyroid ultrasound, which can detect small thyroid nodules that might not otherwise have been found in the past,” The American Cancer Society says.

What are the signs or symptoms related to thyroid cancer?

A lump in the neck

Swelling in the neck

Pain in the front of the neck

Hoarseness or other voice changes

Trouble swallowing

Trouble breathing

A Constant cough

How can you protect yourself?   Here are five steps to performing a self-exam

  1. Hold a mirror in your hand, focussing on the lower front area of your neck, above the collarbones and below the voice box
  2. While focusing on this area in the mirror, tip your head back.
  3. Take a sip of water and swallow.
  4. Look at your neck while you swallow. Check for bulges or protrusions ( don’t confuse the Adam’s Apple with the Thyroid gland).
  5. If you see any bulges or protrusions you might have an enlarged thyroid gland or a thyroid nodule. Give your physician a call for an evaluation.

Thyroid Cancer has a higher survival rate than most cancers. Early detection is key and can help open up more treatment options. It is estimated that 15 million American

have undiagnosed thyroid problems. You can have your thyroid checked with a thyroid-stimulating hormone test, a blood test that can determine whether

the gland is functioning as it should.

New Year New You

“Beyond Traditional Medicine”
New Year New You
A Healthier Lifestyle
As we start the new year there are goals and resolutions that we hope to achieve.  A new year means a new beginning and chance to live our lives to the fullest. Creating your resolutions are easy, however, sticking to them can be more challenging. One of the most popular resolutions is to be healthier. Here are some Tips and Tricks you can use to start a road to a healthier lifestyle.
Tips and Tricks To Use on the Road to a Healthier Lifestyle
Drink Water:
One of the easiest ways to consume extra calories is through sugary drinks. Water, on the other hand, is not only essential to drink and for our bodies to function, but also contains no calories. Not only does a glass of water help our body function at full capacity, but also suppresses hunger. Substituting at least one drink a day for a glass of water will help to decrease calorie intake.
Exercise:
Exercise helps to build muscle which in return takes more calories to maintain. More muscle equals more calories required to maintain them. Not only are calories being burned, but an increase in mood is often associated with frequent exercising is recommended to exercise 30-60 minutes for 3-5 days each week. Exercise can be anything from going to the gym, walking, running, swimming and recreational sports.
Sleep:
It is imperative to get 6-8 hours of sleep a night. If one is unable to get this amount, napping is a positive solution. Sleep keeps the mind and body energized and ready for the day. Lack of sleep will increase a person’s appetite. It is very important to acquire a sleeping habit.
Portion Size:
Many People do not realize how much food they put onto a plate for meals. Become more familiar with serving sizes and measuring cups. Do not skip meals and choose a smaller plate when eating. The body can only adequately digest 3-4 meals per day.
Don’t Buy It:
Most people know that the snacks they are buying are unhealthy. An easy way to ensure that you won’t pick up that sugary snack is to simply not buy it at the store. If it isn’t there at home, you cannot eat it. Instead, buy some of your favorite fruit and veggies to snack on.
Stretching:
Stretching is important to keep muscles flexible and mobile. It will help energize the body and have you ready to take on the day. Try to devote 5-10 minutes a day to stretch out your muscles.
Yummy Snack Idea:
If you want a snack that will keep you full until the next meal you need a combination of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and carbohydrates.
Avocado hummus: Avocado is rich in fiber, potassium, and healthy fats. Combined Avocado with some whole grain pita chips for a yummy filling snack.

Why Choose Chiropractic Care?

Posted on February 12, 2018 by nwahealth in Clinic General News, Health and Wellness

WHY CHOOSE CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

For us here at NWA Health Solutions, we are finding it is so rare that people know everything Chiropractors can do and treat. EDUCATION is key and teaching others about what we do is something we are going to strive to do. Here at NWA Health Solutions we don’t just crack backs. Our Doctors here do so much more than adjustments and we are here to educate you on all our services. Over the next several weeks we are going to discuss different health issues and concerns and how a person experiencing these can benefit from Chiropractic Care.

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for a Thyroid disorder

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Nutritional/Weight Loss

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Diabetes

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for ADHD

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Crohn’s Disease/IBS

First of all, what is a Chiropractor? It is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Doctors of Chiropractic practice hands-on, drug-free approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Every Chiropractor is different and can do different treatments depending on their level of training and education.

Why Patients Come to NWA Health Solutions

The goal of chiropractic is to treat the origin of a condition, not the symptoms of a condition.  Chiropractors get to the root of the problem; why does this condition exist?  This approach is very different than that of a medical doctor.  Today’s medicine treats symptoms that are associated with certain conditions, whereas chiropractors figure out where those symptoms originate from and treat the underlying condition.  There are many conditions that chiropractic can treat without drugs or surgery.  There are also many conditions that are not directly treated by chiropractic but are indirectly affected.

We can help anyone that walk through our doors!

We have Solutions for your questions!

 NWA Health Solution Programs:

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY PROGRAM

Our Spinal Decompression Therapy Program is a proven method of treatment for herniated disc, bulging disc, sciatic pain, and more. This program is designed specifically to heal the low back, not just mask the pain. Taking pain medication or undergoing risky spinal surgery is not the only option for low back pain. We treat the underlying conditions present in the low back, not just the symptoms.

Decompression Therapy works with the vertebrae, inter-vertebral discs and spinal nerves traveling up and down the spine. It is designed to traction the spine, decompressing the vertebrae, allowing the discs to pull in more oxygen and nutrients. By applying traction to the vertebrae in the low back, they allow the discs to act like a vacuum and draw the bulge/herniation back into the disc. This is the number one way to treat a disc bulge without surgery.

THYROID PROGRAM

Dr. Rowden has developed a Thyroid Program to help patients who have been battling thyroid symptoms. This program is designed to help manage those symptoms naturally. With proper lab testing, including all of the necessary tests, Dr. Rowden can determine what the proper steps would be to improve your overall health. It includes 3 office visits, pH testing, supplements, specific nutritional guidelines, and exercise details tailored to each individual.

Enjoy in moderation.

Is it even possible to eat healthy during the holidays? Yes! And you can do it without FOMO or a lot of effort.

Enjoy holiday treats in smaller portions, make healthy substitutions where you can, and plan ahead for merry meals that are healthy, too.

Include lots of seasonal, colorful fruits and vegetables.

Do you decorate for the holidays with a lot of color? Treat your plate the same way. Fruits and vegetables will add flavor, color and nutrients to holiday favorites. And they help you feel fuller longer so you can avoid the temptation to overeat.

Slash unwanted calories with easy swaps and substitutions.

Learn where excess calories, sodium, saturated fat and added sugars are hiding in traditional holiday foods and beverages, and some easy swaps to avoid them. Our guide will show you how.
Navigate holiday parties like a boss.

From the obligatory workplace parties to family get-togethers, your calendar may be bursting with opportunities to eat and drink outside of your regular routine. Make a plan that will help you resist plowing through the buffet table, like having a healthy snack beforehand.

Sprinkle in opportunities to be active.

Keep the inevitable indulgences in check by staying active. Enjoy some winter sports for a change of pace, or schedule in a quick walk or workout before you head to the next party.
